Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Haitian-American writer and documentary photographer Gabrielle Pascal has turned to storytelling for solace nearly her entire life. Her work is a conversation between the written word and photography, using both artistic mediums to show the humanity within her people.
She views the camera as a tool to document the multifaceted lives of the Caribbean diaspora and Black womanhood, with writing being another to explore themes of imperialism, faith, grief, and finding one’s purpose.
Ultimately, she hopes that through her storytelling, one finds the same solace that art has and continues to give her.
